Sara Covatta is a Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener and frequent presenter on compost awareness. She conducts waste audits for schools and works with nonprofits. Sara serves on the leadership and education committee for the Michigan Organics Council and is a member of the U.S. Com posting Council.

Master Gardener Sara Covatta is passionate about increasing awareness and making com posting accessible to all. In this program, Sara highlights various systems for creating this important, living, soil amendment including back yard, thermophilic/hot composting, Bokashi (a Japanese word meaning fermented organic matter), and vermicomposting (using worms). She explains why they are different from large scale composting, outlines best practices for composting food scraps at home, and addresses how to avoid issues with rodents.
